dog is a flirt

my mom and i took dog to the beach today and she didn't have her usual running partner there (ralph).  i tried to do my share of running but i wasn't cutting her grade.  we sat to rest and there was a wakeboarder doing his thing and dog must've thought he needed company and/or rescuing.  she ran over to him and wanted to be pet, and she was jumping all over him, and she was crying and barking for him when he returned to the water (this must be what they call animal magnetism).  she's such a flirt!  if ralph's not there she goes for the next guy which this guy happened to be.  what have i raised?

after the beach we went downtown for some sweets and i saw one of the sweetest pugs ever- a black pug pup (my favorites!).  i also saw a cute pug/beagle mix yesterday at santana row.  it had a pug face, pug shaped longer ears, and a beagle body.  it was a rusty-chocolate color- what a sweetheart!  i wanted to steal it when the owner looked away but that's just asking for bad karma.

would somebody please buy me a ranch so i can buy 10 more dogs, please?!

happy birthday baby d!

today is dog's 5th bday (is that 35 in dog years?  she's now older than me!).  and no, her name is not "baby d" but it is one of her 200 nicknames.  i can't believe she's 5- how fast they grow.  i guess time flies when you have the sweetest dog ever created!  we'll celebrate with a cake (for dogs) and maybe she'll get to share a cheeseburger with dolce, and a fun run at the park!

dogs in cars

there is nothing that makes me angrier than seeing a dog locked up in a car without any windows open.  ok, it makes me upset that they are left in the car in the first place but throw the dog a fucking bone and roll down the window for christ's sake!

anyways, now that the weather is getting hotter around here i just heard about an ordinance that was passed in los gatos that allows law enforcement to brake the windows of cars which have dogs left in them.  i'm so glad they can do this!

consider yourself warned if you go to los gatos.

watch for broken glass!

do not feed the pug

one of the searches that fielded somebody to this site what "what do you feed pugs."  i'll answer that question...

dog should wear a sign that reads "do not feed the pug."  why you ask?  she has food allergies that cause yeast build up in her paws and ears and then she bites and scrathes herself to pieces, or until we heal it with all the usual medications (at his point, i feel like i could be a vet!).

anyways, depending on your pug, whether or not they have allergies you should feed them modestly and always avoid table scraps and any other source of human food.  they are the most gluttoness dogs in the world!  really, i'm not as strict as i sound but it's always good to tell others to be the model dog owner!

adult pugs gain weight easily so i've been told they can eat up to 1 cup per day and it should be 3/4 cup if they are trying to slim down (dogs on a diet, who knew?!).  dog eats ivd (can't remember what this stands for at the moment) but it is special kibble that smells like ass and it can pruchased through a vet office- for dogs who are allergic to everything else, like chicken, beef, etc.  it's duck and potato kibble.  before she had really bad allergy problems, i fed her eukanuba lamb and rice.  dog food is so boring... i'm falling asleep writing about this...hope this ends your search and helps you feed your pug.

back from a mini vacation

this weekend ralph, dog, and my mom drove to santa barbara.  the day before we left, dog's paw got hurt at the beach and it was quite a mystery.  i don't feel like typing the long story so maybe one day i'll tell it.  she's better now.

on the way down to santa barbara dog almost ran into a busy street while we were eating at good ol' burger in paso robles.  the 3 of us nearly had heart attacks (as if the burgers weren't going to do that on their own) and i've never seen ralph run so fast but dog was still a lot faster.  luckily, she u-turned right before she got to the street and ralph snatched her up.  she escaped from her leash which used to only happen when she was a puppy.  thanks goodness she's ok, and ralph, too since they were both running towards cars!

later that day we snuck her into the hotel because every place that took dogs was sold out.  amazingly, we got away with it!  i think she's traumatized though and will forever hate my mom's ikea shopping bag.

thanks to our hotel neighbors i had terrible sleep because they thought the whole hotel needed to hear the evening rendez-vous at 2 am!!!  then, at 7 am!!!!  jeez, somebody must've told them to get a room!  i wish they had gotten a room elsewhere.

the food in sb was good and the weather was perfect.  next time i go, i'd like to do some hiking, bike riding, wine tasting and get a sitter for dog.

singing in the rain

with the combination of me listening to itunes at work all day and the rain, you can imagine i've been doing a lot of singing in the rain, and singing to ralph in order to get these songs out of my head.  most of the time he doesn't recognize the song because 1.) he rarely listens to the radio since he has i-pod fever, and 2.) i think i'm tone deaf so the song never sounds quite the same when it's performed by me.

on the morning walk with dog, there was certainly no reason to sing in the rain (yes, the rain is back!).  we (me and dog) both dislike the rain and on a normal day this prompts her to take care of "business" really quickly so we can both go inside that much faster.  today we were standing outside for nearly 20 minutes pacing the same block and she never went poop.  how annoying, though she did pee like 5 times.  when we got inside she was expecting a treat, but sorry, no treat for no poop.  i hope there isn't a big mess on my carpet at noon- when she next goes out.  maybe she needs more fiber.  oh, or maybe it was the fiber ralph added to her diet last night by giving her some of his honey-bran muffin that caused this lack of "movement."  better luck at the noon walk.

new things in dog's life

dog has a new appreciation for dandelions.  she's always loved their "puffy," "make a wish" phase but she didn't eat them back then.  now she sniffs the yellow flower and tries to eat them.  i think they're poisonous to dogs so i always get her in time but it is cute to see that even she takes time to smell the flowers.

dog is head over heels in love.  she's always had a thing for dolce but now she gets "heartbroken" (as my mom puts it) when she's not with him.  since dolce is my neighbor's pug they have been fortunate to see a lot of each other and i'm beggining to think he's her addiction.  funny dog, love hurts.

dog needs more baths now that the weather is warming up (it's been mid 70s-80s).  i think in the dog worls there is a correlation between dog age and dog smell- as age goes up so does smelliness factor.  this may be true of humans, too!  good thing for ac.

gender bend for dog

recently dog has more in common with dolce than me (well, naturally this would be true since they are both dogs and pugs!) but what i'm referring to is the fact that she's been trying to pee like a boy dog.  she tried peeing on some plants and nearly fell over trying to balance in order to get her leg high enough.  this is sad and funny to watch because when she fails to pee like a boy, she gets this look of confusion and frustration on her face- like, "why isn't this working?"  does she think she's a boy?  if so, why?  maybe hanging out from dolce?!  who knows!
